Kitty at the window

Your own photo as a cross stitch pattern: 21 DMC threads, 14 × 17.6 cm on 14-count Aida.

A ginger cat sitting at the window, stitched on its own on white fabric: the background is left unstitched, which is quicker and shows off the silhouette. Its name is stitched below, in a green taken from the flower pot. The green eyes and their highlight keep the whole expression.

The pattern is 77 × 97 stitches, that is 14 × 17.6 cm on 14-count Aida (17.8 × 22.4 cm on 11-count, 12.2 × 15.4 cm on 16-count, 10.9 × 13.7 cm on 18-count). It uses 21 DMC thread colours, about 21 skeins in all, stitched with 2 strands in full cross stitches only: no half stitches, no backstitch.

Fabric to buy: a piece of 14-count Aida of 30 × 34 cm, which leaves 8 cm all round for the hoop and the framing.

You get a PDF to print, in colour and in black and white, with the list of DMC threads and the number of skeins of each, and a .oxs file that opens in Pattern Keeper and most stitching apps, to follow the pattern on a tablet.
